The Accessible Explorer was started in 2022. I wanted easily accessible information around Gloucestershire on the best places to visit if you are in a power chair or a manual. I share my information, photos and videos in the hope that it will ease anxiety for others when visiting new places. I also love exploring, history, nature and culture and I get to share that in my posts.

I started using a power chair full time in April 2021 and I use a manual wheelchair at home. We use a Ford Fiesta car and a fold up Dash E power chair. We weren’t able to get the power chair in the car by ourselves, so we invested in a electric hoist fitted in the boot of our car that lifts the power chair into the boot. We would be lost without this investment and it has made a world of difference. It means we can go on holiday, abroad or on long weekends. We don’t use public transport as we have a car but I will try and feature public transport information where possible.

I was born with 22qdeletion syndrome and that has effected my muscles and joints leaving me with a permanently dislocated knee cap and limited mobility in my other leg. I also have energy and vertigo problems. I have found limited access frustrating but I do find going  to garden centres the best for access and we tend to stay in Premiere Inn’s when we go away as they always have an accessible room in every hotel.

I hope you find this website fun, informative and helps you enjoy the great outdoors
